  3. The frequency in the actual market depends on the order book (number of buyers/sellers) and the market maker(s). I do not think there is a set interval.

  4. Some prices change every second most of the day, typically the highly traded stocks, or "most active" with high volume. Others may not trade at all for days even (usually penny stocks). Most free sites provide 20 minute delayed quotes that refresh when you click your browser refresh. You can get realtime prices for free as well, for example open a TDAmeritrade account and run their streamer suite. If you are manually looking to enter positions or close positions at particular prices, ie you are waiting for a change in direction, then real-time is more relevant. Otherwise it’s not that critical.
